Is drive green a load of rubbish?
Is Drive Green a load of rubbish?
I'm beginning to strongly suspect that it is serious crap. If you have a Volvo then you'll probably get a good driving score, but if you have a Scania then you can guarantee that you'll get an amber or red flashing light at every roundabout or bend you go round, no matter how smoothly or gently you turn. So it's more of a reflection of what bus you drove that day than your driving style or skills.

Of course it is a load of bollocks. Scanias are thirsty bastards. You should see Arriva's DAF Snails, slight touch on the throttle and the whole lot light up. A waste of money, but Worst are good at doing that..FTR anyone?

Arriva have got bored with it too by the looks. I was on 1 bus recently and it was disconnected, because it was faulty.

Had two buses in one day that had non functioning Drive Green on them. Which was brilliant!!
Re: Is Drive Green a load of rubbish?
It is only good in the states where roads go on for 50 miles without junctions or bends. They need it cos a lot of vehicles still have stupid big V8 petrols!

Your right daisy, its basically a reflection of what bus you drove that day. Even that, we have 9 09 plate Volvo B7RLE's. If you floor 6 of them from standing start you wont get an amber for accleration, other 3 you get an amber. All on exactly the same gearbox/power setting. Its just not consistant enough to function properly, especially when they are giving away money through it. Also, if you brake, but dont quite stop then acclerate away away quite gently, i find you nearly always get either a red or amber flashing light for it. Its a joke!

Just when companies like First and Arriva are looking at dropping it because it doesn't work

Well i am led to believe that as of this saturday there will be no green road system in Leeds because they are taking them out of all the buses.

Well that was a total bloody waste of money then!!
Maybe Wirst would like to try a different money saving method next time, decent and actual preventative maintenance perhaps?

Erm, that will make parking even tighter! You can barely get a fag paper between the buses there on a night already.

Re: Is Drive Green a load of rubbish?
You know, I've never actually noticed them on any of our vehicles. Maybe they'd just be useless and not worth using around here due to the nature of the routes and area in general (constantly changing terrain therefore often needing harshly changing braking and acceleration, etc). I assume they'd be quite noticable from outside the cab, from what I've seen on that video about them the lights are mounted in quite a visible position on the top of the dashboard or thereabouts.
Mind you, on the other hand, FC can't afford to spend a penny on anything at the moment and can't even keep up what they already have, so...
