Arriva Yorkshire hold off fare increases

routeONE magazine Arriva Yorkshire, has announced plans to continue to hold off any fares increase, meaning that prices have now remained frozen for over one year.
With the last fare increase taking place at the beginning of February 2009, Arriva Yorkshire believes its decision to freeze fares will provide the perfect incentive for people to leave their... car at home and switch to bus travel.
Nigel Featham, managing director for Arriva Yorkshire, said: "We believe our bus service offers great value for money and as fuel prices start to creep up again we think bus travel is an even more attractive choice for many people in Yorkshire."
He added: "Over the past 5 years we have invested £17 million in modern and environmentally friendly new buses; we have used satellite tracking systems to make buses more reliable than ever and we have ensured our drivers are the most well trained they have ever been. Passengers are noticing the difference and our latest customer survey shows 9 out of 10 passengers satisfied with the service we provide."
"We hope that this continued freeze on our fares will reflect our loyalty to our customers and hopefully it will, along with the huge investment, attract new passengers onboard too!"
Metro Chairman Cllr Ryk Downes said: "Metro welcomes Arriva's decision to freeze its fares." He added: "Local people tell us that the cost of travel is always one of their main concerns so this news should encourage them to take advantage of Arriva's services and leave the car at home."
Arriva Yorkshire operates local bus services in West and North Yorkshire, including Leeds, York, Selby, Wakefield, Castleford, Dewsbury, Heckmondwike, Huddersfield and Halifax.See more
