What a bloody day
Started at 5 this morning, 770 to Leeds. Only made it to Boston Spa before the B10 decided it didn't want to use any of its gears. Fitters arrived after about an hour, much shaking of head and it was left there to be recovered.
Got back to Harrogate, had a break and then set sail on the 0935 36 to Leeds.
Got caught in the snow, eventually got back at 1535.
Though I thought I'd got stuck permanently at Lidl in Chapel Alerton, when the back end slid round between 2 sets of railings. 15 - 20 mins later, a LCC Gritter arrived and they spread a load in front and shovelled a load under the wheels and it drove straight out.
Bless the punters, they had a whip round which amounted to £37.81
Perfect end to the trip when a Man Utd fan tried to board at a drop off stop and was sent on his way with "Oh, by the way, 4 - 0 to the Cockney Boys!!" Didn't go down well, made me smile though.

Lol that's what you have to say to Manchester United fans. Either that or 1-0 to Manchester City...
I have relatives in Harrogate.

Fail
Did you actually hit the railings or just strategically placed it in that position?

Just caught the first set, barely a mark on the bodywork.
The set the otherside though would have ripped the back end to pieces so thought it best to stop.
Once the grit was down though, it drove straight out.

Re: What a bloody day
Our lot bought about 30 sets of snow chains and fitted them to the Tridents, which were sent out double manned. Why they picked those grotty old things when there are nice warm Swedish designed Scanias with traction control I don't know...
One bus went on to demolish a bus stop and another had them ping off a couple of times.

Traction control..Doesn't work in snow. Been driving a 60 plate Transit LWB 3.5 tonner fitted with it, and it was going bonkers, and had bugger all grip

Fortunately we have been able to continue with our contracts although the schools have maybe ran a little late.... We have also been contracted to shuttle air passengers from GlasgowAirport to Aberdeen Airport by Easy Jet and also a load of Rail Replacement for First Scotrail, so business is booming despite all this nasty weather.... Hope every one is nice and warm and staying safe...

Re: What a bloody day
Had an assload of snow here the friday before last - I was on cardiff schools.. had them all dropped off by 4, back in the yard by 4.55 as I was going back against the flow of traffic for most of the way, and was home at 6.. so all in all about an hour and a half late! Still, it wasn't much fun driving a manual DAF from the 80s with lockyup brakes.
It's more in the last two or three days it's been a problem, all the snow in the yard has compacted to ice and it rained a tonne on friday night, which froze overnight... was parking a B10M up yesterday morning and started sliding sideways, eek!

Re: What a bloody day
All our schools are shut today so i still have the mini bus and the work has my car... Cars abandoned all over the village, still no snow plough or gritter been in, a couple of wee tractors cleared some snow but its sheer ice underneath, Arriva have still suspended their services... Renfrewshire Council fucked up as usual....

Wow! Warm Scanias!! Most of our Scanias are like mobile fridges at the moment. Everyone now wants to drive Darts, as they are the warmest buses at our depot.
Re: What a bloody day
Yeah. Sometimes they are too warm. I was driving one in shirt sleeves the other day and it was minus 2 outside.
Here is my picture of my walk to work along Davigdor Road in Hove. The snow was about 8 inches deep in places and for most of it was coming into my boots from the top...

Re: What a bloody day
All out L94's are all warm, well with the square wright body, the smilies are fridges. Just too many places for the heat to escape! The L113's are just horrific, windows freezing up as you drive with full demisters on and the bus in first gear for 20 mins.Daisy Dart wrote:The Evil Bus Driver wrote:Our lot bought about 30 sets of snow chains and fitted them to the Tridents, which were sent out double manned. Someone showed me this. Thought it might be worth a laugh... What gets me is it's snowing so lets divert a load of buses up a steep hill. Hmmm.
