Bus stops!!
When it comes to bus stops it seems that Suffolk County Council haven't got a clue. They put bus stops where their are driveways with drop kerbs, bus stops where there is nothing but muddy grass, bus stops near junctions. Another of their tricks is to attach a stopping flag to a lamp post but have the layby or raised kerb about 30 feet further down the road. There are also loads of stops that have no flags at all, just a box painted on the road or even just a raised kerb to indicate where the bus should stop. There are also loads of them that are obscured by overgrown bushes or are hidden behind road signs. It's a bloody nightmare. The amount I have missed because I simply couldn't see them hidden in some obscure spot!
Re: Bus stops!!
Its the same in rural York
In one of the villages, they built a raised kerb, but had the bus stop 50 yards on at a drop kerb, and thy have a bus stop on a drop kerb in a retail park, so you cannot kneel the bus or use the ramp...

Re: Bus stops!!
Locals in one town told me that the council had decided not to put the flag near the raised kerb because the ground was unsuitable to hold a post. Well why then is it suitable for lamp posts, telephone poles and other assorted street furniture!!
Re: Bus stops!!

Re: Bus stops!!
How about a bus stop on a blind corner buried in bushes on a narrow lane.

Can you spot it?

Re: Bus stops!!
haha, we have our fair share here too. Infact, the stop I use is one of the stupid ones.
As you can see, the stops on both sides have markings blocking a drop kerb driveway. It's a game of guessing whether the bus will stop before the shelter blocking the driveway or whether the driver will move further on to the other side of the shelter and everyone has to walk down.
Try getting a bus in this... our 9.4m Darts don't even fit on it as it's cunninly placed on a slight curve as well as being very short. You just have to be half out in the road lol, infact some drivers don't even bother pulling in there much at all and are almost completely still in the road. The funnier thing is, Plaxton Centro B7RLEs also have to try and use it, hahaha. Oh, and it's a laugh when both need to use it the same time (both operators come around the same time), blocking the road ftw.
Spot the stop on the left. No? Yeah, there's no flag or anything. And to top it off, it's a 60mph road.
Oh, and this stop which is on hatched markings.

Re: Bus stops!!
In some cases I think there are bus stops that date back to the days of back loaders. They were fine when the bus was positioned with the rear open platform near the flag. But then back loading half-cabs were replaced by front loading rear engined buses. They never bothered to re-position the bus stops to accommodate rear engined buses, so you end up with situations where in order to stop at the flag a bus has to block a junction or the access to a property.

Yup, you aint wrong there.

Re: Bus stops!!
Yeah... but like the ones I showed for example, they've been done more recently.

Re: Bus stops!!
In this shot from Google maps you can see the bus shelter at the Hand In Hand public house in Trimley St Martin. This is an old shot of the place, the bus shelter now stands against the wall where them keep left signs are. So you can imagine the joy this causes when a bus has to pull up there!!!
