Weird conversation!

The other night I was doing a late turn taking a few folks home in the evening. I had two people on my bus that caught my attention. They seemed to be talking to each other, but their conversation became more and more weird.
"Oh yes I only had a couple of cocktails tonight." The woman says cheerfully.
"That's terrible, but then you didn't really have a choice in the matter." The bloke said in a more serious tone.
"I normally have a few more, but I wanted to keep a clear head tonight." The woman says.
"You don't want to end up in hospital again." The man replied.
"Oh yes I really enjoyed it." The woman laughed.
"It's just not fair." The man sounded angry.
"Well we're going out Wednesday, are you coming by chance?" The woman says.
"It's disgusting the way you've been treated." I hear the man say.
I was a bit intrigued by this strange conversation and so took a peek in the passenger view mirror. It was only then I realised that the two people who seemed to be talking to each were actually having completely seperate conversations on their mobile phones, but were talking at the same pitch!
