The hot weather is here..
Its getting warm, so its time for lots of overheating related breakdowns. Usually caused by furred up radiators and piss weak coolant that is mostly water...

That means lots and lots of buses putting the kettle on. Buses and heatwaves just don't mix!!

My bus certainly didn't agree with it last night

Told ya! Dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree and buzzers in overdrive!
I once managed to cook an engine and gearbox simultaneously on a Scania decker on a scorching day. Was right on a junction too when it cried no more and shut down....Maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarvelous!

They maybe should think about putting in the right amount of coolant in the engine but no complaints from me was a welcome break till the engine cooled down

Flushing and cleaning radiators out would help too, especially in hard water areas..Lots of limescale.....

Mind you it is annoying if your bus decides to break down on your last run, making you late home. Especially if it's the end of a long day shift and you're hungry and tired.

Great...that time of year again...taking over from certain drivers that don't know about personal hygiene

Oh yeah, every depot seems to have one peerless smelly c*nt who, come rain or shine, just won't use deodorant or soap and water for that matter. These are usually the same stinky gits who'll wear their anoraks, coats on scorching hot days too, even though they are nearly drowning in their own sweat.

One of the 'tricks' the will do down here is pressure wash the engine bay and radiator down before sending it back out. Not sure if they use cold water or barely warm water but even so....

And where I work, take it in boiling - do one trip in whatever shit they have spare then take it back on fully 'fixed' - only for it to overheat again after another trip!

Re: The hot weather is here..
I was going to Wakefield today and decided against going on the 231 centre bus service in favour of going with Arriva through Dewsbury, I got on a alx200 dart route 128 which over heated part way through the journey, a bit odd since it was not actually that hot today; it was quite cloudy with a cool breeze. The driver turned off the engine. The bus overheated in Kirkburton the only place where the 128 and 231 routes meet, the Arriva driver flagged down the 231 which was right behind the 128 and passengers going to Wakefield were told to go on the 231, so I ended up going on the 231 anyway. The dart was fine as it followed the 231 into Wakefield station. All just a bit odd.
I have never witnessed a DAF sb220 or gs220 overheat and they become so hot inside.
Why do the optare spectras have their heating on all the time?

Probably to stop them from overheating

Arriva's entire DAF Snail fleet are dropping like flies due to them having the kettle on all the time. Heating is switched on to try and stop this, but it cooks everyone inside.
